Although Changdeokgung Palace is lesser known than Gyeongbokgung Palace, it's definitely worth the visit if you want to explore historical palaces with less crowds! Also located in the heart of Seoul, it is the most well-preserved of the 5 remaining royal Joseon palaces and has a wide public palace area and a "Secret Garden" with a small lake and greenhouse. Changdeokgung Palace and Changgyeonggung Palace are next to each other and there's a gate inside the palace grounds (near the Secret Garden) to cross through, so you can visit both in one go. Though you have to pay separate entrance fees, it's only 1,000 won and 3,000 won for adults. Since the public area is really big, you can take a long stroll around the palace grounds and chill in the garden in peace.
Be mindful if you visit in the summer like we did - there are trees and good shaded places but bring a cap/umbrella and enough water to stay hydrated!
