I recently visited the Anseong Namsadang Baudeogi Festival, and it was truly a celebration of Korea’s vibrant folk heritage. The opening ceremony alone was unforgettable! The powerful drum performance by local middle school students instantly filled the air with excitement and pride. The festival grounds were alive with music, color, and cheerful energy as visitors gathered to watch the Namsadang Nori, a traditional itinerant troupe performance that beautifully reflected the spirit and artistry of Joseon-era entertainers. Standing among the crowd, I couldn’t help but admire how this city honors its legacy through both performance and participation. Beyond the stage performances, I explored the festival’s marketplace and experience zones, where I got to taste Anseong’s local specialties. From fresh milk, juicy grapes, to savory mushrooms, and tender local meat dishes, you can find everything. Each bite showcased the region’s rich agricultural pride. I joined in on fun traditional activities like rope walking and folk games, browsed through local crafts, and even witnessed a re-enactment of a traditional Korean wedding, which felt like stepping back in time. The cultural booths and exhibitions, including the photo gallery of old Anseong, added a meaningful touch that deepened my appreciation for the city’s evolving yet preserved identity. As the day went on, I realized how quickly time passed while being immersed in the music, laughter, and performances around me. Every corner of the festival exuded warmth, from the smiling volunteers to the joyful families enjoying the outdoor stage shows. Watching the tightrope performance and pungmul drummers play under the open sky was a perfect way to end the day. This festival is not just a show but a living story of Anseong’s culture, people, and pride. Because some experiences are simply too special to enjoy just once, I hope to visit again next yearrr!
