A friend who is an avid history fan invited me to visit Deoksugung with her. We arrived at around 2pm and started to walk around the palace complex. The interesting thing about Deoksugung, compared to other palaces, is that it has western architecture for the main building, since it was built for Daehan Empire in the past. Unlike other palaces where each function is in separate buildings, the palace has everything (bedroom, dining room, bathroom, etc.) in one building. We also attended tour for Daehan Empire History Museum and walk around inside the palace building, followed by exhibition about western architecture in Korean history. Another plus point compared to other castle, it had less people so we could enjoy the walk around more comfortably.
Check and book the English tour for Daehan Empire History Museum from the Korean palace website. It has 2 time slots per day, with maximum 20 people per time. Foreigners can also join the general tour (up to 5 persons per time slot) and will be provided audio guide. There is also Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MMCA) that can be entered with 2000 won ticket.
