Things to Prepare

If you don’t know what the " Korean Heritage Passport Tour " is, you can find all the information online and get the passport to collect stamps at two locations in Yeongju!

About your trip

I went to Yeongju for two days and one night with Funday, and it was an unforgettable experience! We visited two UNESCO World Heritage sites located in Yeongju, as well as a few other equally amazing places! It turns out that Yeongju is a very beautiful city, rich in history and incredibly interesting! I definitely recommend everyone to visit! During these two days, we visited: the Buddhist Temple Buseoksa (부석사), the Neo-Confucian Academy Sosu Seowon (소수서원), the Seonbichon Village (선비촌), and the Mural Tomb Sunheung Eupnaeri (순흥 읍내리 벽화고분). On top of that, we were lucky enough to make our own ginseng liquor and even try fresh ginseng (Yeongju is the city where ginseng was first cultivated during the Joseon Dynasty). We also got to make our own wind chimes! On top of everything, we received so many gifts from the trip organizers—huge thanks to them for their generosity! But that’s not all! We also spent the night at an amazing wellness resort surrounded by mountains and water. The facilities were excellent, and the view from the windows was absolutely stunning! I’m truly grateful for the opportunity to have such a unique experience. These two days were absolutely wonderful — I met incredible people and learned so many new things!

TIP

Our tour guide told us that the best time to go up to the temple is in the fall! They said that many ginkgo trees are planted along the path, so in autumn, when all the leaves turn yellow, the view is absolutely breathtaking! Also, make sure to wear comfortable shoes and clothes, as the hike up to the temple is not the easiest walk!

TIP

I would recommend exploring every corner of the academy, because both the outer park and the academy grounds are full of incredibly beautiful hidden spots! Also, try meditating in the pavilions by the water, just like the academy’s students once did—you might even find yourself inspired to write a poem about the stunning nature tucked away within the academy grounds!

TIP

Before visiting Seonbi Village, check if your favorite historical drama was filmed there—it just might have been! I can imagine how exciting it must be to find the exact spot where the characters once stood in a drama you watched at home... The village itself is incredibly beautiful, especially in April when it's filled with colorful and stunning flowers! I really hope you get the chance to visit it someday!
