About your trip

My two-day trip to Yeongju was nothing short of incredible, offering a perfect blend of natural beauty, deep history, and cultural richness. Nestled in the heart of Gyeongsangbuk-do, Yeongju surprised me with its peaceful atmosphere and the feeling of stepping back in time. My first stop was the famous Buseoksa Temple, one of Korea’s oldest and most revered Buddhist temples. Set against the backdrop of rolling mountains, the temple felt almost otherworldly. The climb up was refreshing, and every step offered a new breathtaking view. When I reached the top, I was greeted by the stunning Muryangsujeon Hall — Korea's oldest wooden building — and the serene stone pagodas surrounding it. The scent of pine trees mixed with the crisp mountain air created a calming atmosphere. Walking through the temple grounds, I felt a deep sense of peace. The legends tied to the temple, especially the story of Lady Seonmyo, added a mystical charm to the visit. The next day, I explored Sosu Seowon, Korea’s first private Confucian academy. The village, preserved beautifully, offered a real glimpse into the scholarly life of the Joseon Dynasty. The architecture was simple yet elegant, blending seamlessly with the surrounding nature. I loved wandering through the quiet courtyards and peeking into the old study halls. Each corner seemed to whisper stories of scholars deep in thought, surrounded by books and nature. Compared to the grandeur of Buseoksa, Sosu Seowon had a more understated, contemplative beauty, and it made me appreciate the traditional values of education and humility. Yeongju was a hidden gem. Over just two days, I felt like I touched two important pillars of Korean tradition: the spiritual through Buseoksa, and the intellectual through Sosu Seowon. It’s a perfect destination if you’re looking for a trip filled with meaning, history, and serenity — a refreshing break from the busy pace of modern life.

TIP

If you ever need a break from the busy city life and want a trip that leaves you feeling refreshed, Yeongju is 100% worth it.
