Two years ago, I had the opportunity to visit Sokcho with my friend for a 2-day, 1-night trip from Daejeon. Our journey started with a night stay in Seoul before heading straight to Sokcho early in the morning. The journey was smooth, and within a few hours, we arrived at our destination, eager to explore. Seoraksan National Park Our first stop was Seoraksan National Park, where we took the cable car up the mountain. The view was absolutely breathtaking, seeing the vast mountain range from above and the beautiful landscape beneath the cable car made the ride unforgettable. It reminded me of Nepal, with its rolling hills, lush forests, and flowing rivers. At the top, we admired the stunning scenery and then explored more of the national park, including a small waterfall nearby. Yeonggeumjeong Pavilion – The Beauty of the East Sea After our mountain adventure, we headed to Yeonggeumjeong Sunrise Pavilion to take in the mesmerizing view of the blue sea and feel the refreshing ocean breeze. The color of the water was so vivid and deep that I felt as if I was being immersed in the vastness of the sea itself. It was truly a soul-soothing experience. Traditional Market One of the highlights of our trip was an unexpected act of kindness. A local driver gave us a lift to the Sokcho Traditional Market, where we explored the vibrant stalls and enjoyed delicious local food for dinner. The people were incredibly warm and welcoming, making our visit even more special. Exploring Sokcho Lake, Abai Village & Beach The next morning, we started our day by visiting Cheongchoho Lake, a picturesque spot perfect for photography. The peaceful water and surrounding views made it an ideal place to relax. Next, we went to Abai Village, a historic settlement of North Korean refugees, where we tried the famous Abai Sundae (stuffed squid sausage), a must-try dish in Sokcho. To end our trip, we took a short boat ride to Sokcho Beach, where we enjoyed the stunning ocean view and the peaceful atmosphere. The sound of the waves and the cool breeze made it a perfect way to wrap up our adventure. Thus, Sokcho is a wonderful destination for anyone who loves nature, mountains, and the sea. From the majestic peaks of Seoraksan to the serene coastal views, every moment felt magical. The warmth of the locals, the delicious food, and the breathtaking landscapes made this trip an unforgettable experience. I highly recommend visiting Sokcho for a short getaway whether you're a hiking enthusiast, a seafood lover, or simply someone looking for a peaceful retreat.
Book your tickets for the bus and hotels earlier. There might be traffic on the way so I recommend you take the early bus in the morning.
