About your trip

For the first time, I decided to welcome the New Year in a truly memorable way by joining the Funday Korea Jangho Sunrise Tour. This adventure took me to the stunning East Coast of Korea, where I experienced the first sunrise of 2025, explored vibrant local markets, and embraced the beauty of this coastal region. The journey began late at night at Seoul Station, where a group of travelers, all equally excited, gathered to embark on this adventure. Funday Korea made everything effortless, from organizing the train tickets to providing a seamless itinerary. The quiet hum of the E-Train bound for Donghae was the perfect backdrop for anticipation and reflection as I prepared for what was ahead. Our first destination was Janghohang Port (장호항), also known as the "Naples of the East." Arriving under a starry sky, I was greeted by the gentle sound of waves from the East Sea. The port’s rock formations and crystal-blue waters were breathtaking, almost like stepping into a postcard. As the first light broke over the horizon, the sky transformed into hues of gold, reminding me of a glowing egg yolk. Watching the waves roll in and out, I couldn’t help but reflect on how life mirrors the ocean, constantly moving, coming and going, yet always beautiful. This year, I made no wishes. Instead, I embraced the idea of accepting whatever comes my way with an open heart. After the sunrise, we enjoyed a warm bowl of tteokguk, the traditional New Year’s rice cake soup. Served at a cozy restaurant by the port, this comforting dish felt like a well-deserved reward after braving the morning chill. Simple yet rich in meaning, tteokguk is believed to bring good luck and a fresh start for the year ahead, and it was the perfect way to refuel for the next leg of the journey. The next stop was a relaxing visit to a local sauna. Soaking in the warmth and steam was the perfect way to unwind after the chilly morning by the sea. The sauna felt like a little slice of heaven, and it was just what I needed to reset for the rest of the day. We then headed to Mukho Port Fish Market (묵호어판장 수산시장), a lively and colorful hub just a short drive from the port. The market was a sensory feast, with vendors calling out, fresh seafood on display, and the unmistakable salty breeze of the East Sea. From snow crabs to scallops and octopus, the market offered everything a seafood lover could dream of. Whether you’re into raw seafood or hearty soups, Mukho Port Fish Market delivers, and at prices far more affordable than in Seoul. Unfortunately, due to time constraints, I couldn’t personally visit Dojjaebigol Sky Valley (도째비골스카이밸리) or Nongoldam-gil Street (Deungdae Damhwa Village), but they’re both located near Mukho Port Fish Market, and I highly recommend checking them out. Dojjaebigol Sky Valley is known for its suspended walkways and breathtaking ocean views, while Nongoldam-gil Street is a charming mural village with vibrant artwork that tells the story of the local community. Both are must-visit spots if you have more time. The Funday Korea Jangho Sunrise Tour was an unforgettable way to kick off the New Year. From the awe-inspiring sunrise at Janghohang Port to the vibrant energy of Mukho Port Fish Market, the relaxing sauna, and the hidden gems nearby, every moment felt special. Whether you’re a fan of coastal views, fresh seafood, or meaningful traditions, this experience has something for everyone. Here’s to the waves, the light, and whatever 2025 has in store. 🌊✨ Check out my Insta videos from this trip : Sunrise at Jangho Port : https://www.instagram.com/p/DEUD8dbpdX-/ Sky Valley : https://www.instagram.com/p/DEaFlXav7iY/ E-train : https://www.instagram.com/p/DEXagWVvpq5/ Mukho Fish Market : https://www.instagram.com/p/DEWXPX4pD8W/
