Think Koreans only drink soju from the iconic green bottle? Think again! Korea's vibrant alcohol culture is a treasure trove of flavors and traditions waiting to be discovered. 🍶✨ I recently had the chance to visit the Korean Grand Sool Festival in Seoul, and it was an absolute eye-opener. This festival is a celebration of Korea's diverse alcoholic beverages, blending tradition and innovation in the most delightful way. From the moment I walked in, I was surrounded by the hum of excitement, with booths showcasing everything from ancient brewing methods to cutting-edge trends in Korean alcohol. One of the biggest surprises for me was the sheer variety of drinks beyond the classic soju. I tasted smooth and creamy makgeolli (a traditional rice wine), elegant and refined craft soju, and some truly unique infused liqueurs with flavors like plum, chrysanthemum, and even ginseng. My favorite was yuja, the local citrus, and I have to say I am now in a yuja fanclub! Each sip was a new adventure, offering a glimpse into the creativity and dedication of the brewers and distillers. What really stood out was the passion of the people behind the drinks. Watching them explain their craft with so much pride and enthusiasm was genuinely inspiring. You could feel their love for preserving tradition while innovating for the future. It made every tasting experience feel deeply personal and meaningful. The festival offered games and food options, and a series of lectures where you can get to know more about the intricate craft of making Korean alcohol (in Korean). It's fine if you don't speak Korean, alcohol doesn't judge ;) Of course, I couldn’t resist taking a piece of this magic home with me…or maybe eight pieces! 😂 Yes, I ended up buying eight bottles of wine and spirits because I just couldn’t choose a favorite. Each bottle felt like a story, a memory of this incredible experience. If you’re a fan of exploring local cultures through their drinks or just love trying something new and exciting, the Korean Grand Sool Festival is an absolute must. Whether you’re into traditional brews, modern twists, or discovering your next favorite drink, this festival offers it all. If you’re in Seoul next year, mark your calendar—you won’t regret it! 🥂
Take money, you're going to buy a lot :)
