Culture Day in Korea / May Issue, 2025

2025.05.13

“Wednesdays are the new Fridays!” is what we declare, and you might be asking yourself - “Why?”...

What if we put free museum entrances, discounts in cinemas and theatres, and more on the table?

It all began 10 years ago when the Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism proposed to introduce a special way to bring people closer to culture and make it more accessible. Their idea was to fix every last Wednesday of each month as a special day when one could enjoy movies and performances at a cheaper price and get to visit the main palaces of Seoul, as well as some selected museums, for free. This starts the history of the Culture Day, or 문화가 있는 날.

Ever wondered why the tickets were so cheap that one time? Must have been a Culture Wednesday!

With care for your soul and wallet, we have prepared a short summary of the benefits you can get from now on, as long as you keep track of your calendar.

Let’s start with the cinemas!

Next, we have the cultural heritage sites that suggest free or discounted admission! The list includes the Four Grand Palaces of Seoul (Gyeongbokkung, Changdeokgung, Changgyeonggung, Deoksugung), Jongmyo Shrine, and the Royal tombs of the Joseon dynasty.

Finally, active fun is also culture: theme park Everland and two big marine life displays, Aqua Planet and COEX Aquarium, also propose cheaper tickets!

You can find a full list of discounts and other perks here:

Save the date of May 28th, as well - let’s enjoy Korean culture together and make it a beautiful tradition!

Until next time,
