*Who are K-UNESCO Adventurers?

 

K-UNESCO Adventures is a project held by KOCIS(Korean Culture and Information Service).

*This event was conducted by small groups who met the criteria in compliance with the Corona quarantine guidelines. *

 

 

The K-UNESCO Adventurers did not meet online this time, but offline!

K-UNESCO Adventurers가 이번에는 온라인이 아닌 오프라인에서 모였습니다!

 

On October 18th, 2020, 8 foreigners from different nationalities living in Korea went to Ganghwa to learn about

the Dolmen Ruins, a UNESCO cultural heritage site.

2020년 10월 18일, 8명의 다국적 주한 외국인 친구들이 유네스코에 지정 문화유산인 강화 고인돌 유적을 배우기 위해 강화로 떠났습니다.

 

 

 

They visited not only the Dolmen Ruins but also various unique touristic and cultural attractions of Ganghwa.

고인돌 유적 뿐만 아니라 강화의 다양하고 특색있는 관광지 및 문화도 함께 즐길 수 있었어요.

 

Ganghwa has been known for a long time for producing high-quality ginseng. After the Korean War,

people living in North Korea moved to Ganghwa Island and began to grow ginseng as a means of livelihood. As it got famous, it became one of the largest ginseng farms in South Korea.

강화는 예로부터 품질 좋은 인삼을 생산하기로 유명한 도시입니다.

한국 전쟁 이후 북한에 살고 있던 사람들이 강화로 거주지를 옮기면서 생계수단으로 인삼을 재배하기 시작했는데 유명세를 타기 시작하면서 한국 최대 인삼 재배지 중 하나로 자리 잡게 되었지요.

 

  

 

The participants first visited the Ganghwawa Ginseng Center, where they could purchase Ganghwa Ginseng

first hand, and later participated in harvesting ginseng by themselves. (It wasn't an easy job because the ginseng was deep in the ground!)

참가자 친구들은 먼저 강화 인삼을 직접 구매할 수 있는 ‘Ganghwa Ginseng Center’에 방문하고 직접 인삼을 수확하는 체험까지 참여했습니다. (땅 속에 깊이 박혀있어서 쉽지 않았다고 해요!)

 

  

 

After that, they had a delicious whole chicken soup with Ganghwa Ginseng for lunch and later experienced making their own 'Hwamunseok', another pride of Ganghwa.

그 다음에는 강화 인삼이 들어간 맛있는 닭 백숙을 점심으로 먹고, 강화의 또 다른 자랑인 ‘화문석’을 직접 만드는 체험을 해보았어요.

 

  

 

At first glance, Hwamunseok is similar to Ratan in Indonesia, which is widely used for interior design,

but if you look closely,  Hwamunseok is made using Korean traditional manufacturing methods, and there are differences in design and quality.

화문석은 얼핏 보면 요즘 인테리어를 위해 많이 사용 하는 인도네시아의 ‘라탄’과 비슷하지만 자세히 보면 한국 고유의 제작 방식을 사용하여 만들어지고 디자인이나 품질면에서도 차이가 있지요.

 

  

 

Next, they visited Ganghwa Dolmen Ruins, the highlight of the tour.

다음으로는 탐방의 하이라이트인 강화 고인돌 유적을 방문했습니다.

 

As many as 40 percent of the world's dolmens are concentrated in Korea, and the dolmens located in Ganghwado Island are the representative Dolmens of Korea.

세계 고인돌 중 무려 40%가 한국에 밀집해 있으며 강화도에 위치한 고인돌은 큰 규모를 자랑하는 한국의 대표 고인돌이라고 할 수 있습니다.

 

   

 

With an English guide present, they could learn more about how Ganghwa Dolmens were registered as UNESCO's cultural heritage and how they were made.

이 곳에서는 특별히 영어 해설사 선생님을 만나 강화 고인돌이 어떻게 유네스코 문화유산에 등재되었는지와 어떠한 과정을 통해 만들어지는지 자세히 배울 수 있었습니다.

 

The last program was to visit Jeondeung Temple, the oldest Buddhist temple in Korea.

탐방 마지막 프로그램은 한국에서 가장 오래된 사찰인 ‘전등사’ 탐방이었습니다.

 

They heard great histories thanks to the English guide and took the group photo at the temple's beautiful scenery.

이 곳에서도 마찬가지로 영어 해설사 선생님의 재미있는 해설과 함께 진행이 되었으며, 아름다운 전등사에서 단체 사진을 촬영하고 탐방이 마무리 되었습니다.

 

 

 

Because of the Corona,  a small group tour was held, different from last year.  About 200 friends applied to participate, but unfortunately, we couldn't invite all of them.

코로나 때문에 작년과 다르게 소그룹으로 운영된 탐방이라 200명 가량의 친구들이 신청했지만 모두 초대할 수 없어서 아쉬운 탐방이었습니다.
