K-UNESCO Adventures
Hunminjeongeum(Hangul)
K-UNESCO Adventures is a project held by KOCIS(Korean Culture and Information Service).
*This event was conducted by small groups who met the criteria in compliance with the Corona quarantine guidelines. *
On September 26th, 2020, eight friends from different countries gathered to learn about King Sejong, one of the most beloved kings in Korean history, and his most significant achievement, the invention of the Hangeul alphabet.
2020년 9월 26일, 한국 역사상 가장 사랑받는 왕 중 한명인 ‘세종대왕’과 세종대왕의 가장 위대한 업적인 ‘한글’에 대해 배우기 위해 8명의 다국적 친구들이 모였습니다.
The first place to visit was the National Hangeul Museum, where you can see all the history of Hangeul and HunminjeongKorea, the first national treasure. Hunminjeongeum was the name of Hangul during the Joseon Dynasty and is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage.
첫번째 탐방 장소는 ‘국립한글박물관’ 이었는데요, 국립한글박물관은 한글의 역사와 한국의 국보 1호인 훈민정음을 실물로 볼 수 있는 곳입니다. 훈민정음은 조선시대에 한글을 부르던 명칭으로 유네스코 세계 문화유산으로 등재되어 있습니다.
We had an English guide present who explained everything from Hangul's history to King Sejong's fascinating stories. The participants were delighted with what they could learn that day.
이번 투어에는 특별히 영어해설사님께서 함께 해주셨는데요, 한글의 역사부터 세종대왕에 얽힌 재미있는 일화까지 자세히 설명해 주셔서 참가자 친구들의 만족도가 굉장히 높았어요.
After the exhibition tour, we watched a special exhibition for a limited time. It was an exhibition about Koreans' lives told through the lyrics of old Korean songs. All the participants showed great interest in this special exhibition.
일반 전시 투어를 마친 뒤에는 한정 기간 동안만 진행되는 특별전시를 관람했습니다. 한국의 옛 노래의 가사를 통해 한국인의 삶을 이야기로 풀어낸 전시 였는데 참가자 친구들이 특히 흥미로워 했지요.
On the next program, everyone participated in Calligraphy Painting and Hunminjeongeum Woodblock Printing activities, which uses Hangeul. Everyone was so engaged by this program that no one heard that the time was already over.
전시 관람 후에는 직접 한글을 활용하는 캘리그래피 액자 만들기, 훈민정음 목판 인쇄 체험(wookblock printing) 프로그램에 참여했는데 모두 열심히 몰두해서 하느라 체험 시간이 끝났다는 이야기를 못 들을 정도였어요.
The participants had a great time at the museum, and next traveled to the Royal Tomb of King Jeong. The Royal Tomb of King Sejong is located in Yeoju, Gyeonggi-do, and is also called 'Yeongneung.'
박물관에서 유익한 시간을 보낸 참가자들은 다음 코스인 세종대왕릉(Royal tomb of King Sejong) 으로 이동했습니다. 세종대왕릉은 경기도 여주에 위치하고 있는데 ‘영릉’ 이라는 이름으로도 불리고 있어요.
Yeongneung Royal Tombs (The Royal Tomb of Joseon) is a UNESCO Cultural Heritage, just like Hangeul. It is recognized for its high preservation and is a popular attraction for many tourists.
영릉(조선 왕릉)도 한글과 마찬가지로 유네스코에 등재된 문화유산으로 높은 보존성을 인정받아 많은 관광객이 즐겨 찾는 명소 입니다.
In Yeongneung, everyone enjoyed the English guided tour, learning about Yeongneung and King Sejong's inventions through the miniature models displayed.
영릉에서도 마찬가지로 영어해설사와 함께 투어를 즐겼는데요, 영릉뿐 아니라 세종대왕의 발명품을 본 따서 만든 모형들이 전시되어 있어 발명품에 대해서도 배울 수 있었어요.
Yeongneung Royal Tombs could be seen from a close distance in the past, but it is no longer allowed to preserve the cultural assets. You can see only from afar, but even from a long distance, we could feel the dignity of Yeongneung.
예전에는 영릉을 가까운 거리에서 직접 볼 수 있었는데 문화재 보존을 위해 더 이상 허용하지 않아 먼 발치에서만 관람할 수 있어 아쉬웠지만 먼 거리에서도 영릉의 위엄을 느낄 수 있었습니다.
The last day of the tour ended with a beautiful Korean traditional music concert.
